The Harry Potter series follows Harry Potter’s journey in magic school as he learns all about the sordid secrets of the Wizarding World and eventually learns to be a powerful wizard in his own right. Though prophesied to be a saviour, Harry Potter’s schooling experience mirrors many experiences that those who go to normal school would find exceedingly familiar: studying, difficult professors, and, excitingly, crushes! Here are some of the most significant romantic pairings during Harry’s time at Hogwarts, but be warned! Spoilers abound.
- Harry Potter and Cho Chang: Though Harry’s crush on Cho--one year his senior and a popular Seeker with the Ravenclaws--seemed like the start of something promising, the relationship ultimately fell apart due to depressing circumstances of the Wizarding War and Harry’s inexperience with romantic love. The relationship was marked by grief, confusion, resentment, and ultimately an unsavoury end.
- Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown: Unfortunately for Lavender, her obsessive infatuation with fellow Gryffindor Ron was met only with lukewarm tolerance and occasionally the cold shoulder. While she threw herself into the relationship, Ron seemed put off by her enthusiasm and believed the two were not a good match. When Lavender finally broke off the relationship, it was perhaps for the better of both of them.
- Hermione Granger and Viktor Krum: The unlikely pairing between famous Bulgarian Quidditch player Viktor Krum and famously bookish Hermione Granger is perhaps the relationship that proceeded most peacefully out of the Golden Trio’s first romantic experiences. The two attended the Yule Ball together during the Triwizard Tournament, and afterwards maintained a friendly correspondence, though the relationship never progressed into a serious romantic engagement.
- Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley: This endgame couple had a long history over the course of their Hogwarts years, as Ginny had a crush the first time she met Harry at the age of 10. Meanwhile, Harry took his time to finally realize his affections for her, and though the Wizarding War made their budding romance a difficult one to realize at the time, they eventually found their way back to each other after the war.

Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger: Is this perhaps the most expected, or the most unexpected of all the endgame couples? Though the two seem an unlikely pair from the very moment they met, their enduring friendship and eventual romance prove that opposites can and do attract.
