    Look for a card that has a high bit-rate (24 is usually fine) and a high sample rate (anything over 96 kHz). Surround sound is optional, but if you're using or planning on using 5./7.1 headphones/speakers, do get the amount you need. A big warning to watch out for cheap cards. They could ruin the quality of sound worse than on-board cards.
