In Phasmophobia, the Music Box is one of the cursed possessions you can find around the map. Only one cursed possession will spawn in each game. In this article, we'll go over what the Music Box does, how to use it, where to find it, and some tips and strategies for using it.
Phasmophobia Music Box
- The Music Box is one of the seven cursed possessions that can spawn on a map.
- The Music Box is used to locate or see the ghost, so you can find their favored room or take a photo/video of them.
- If you throw the Music Box on the ground, it will immediately start a cursed hunt.
Steps
How to Use the Music Box
-
Pick up the Music Box. If you've found a Music Box in your game, pick it up. The box will open once it's picked up, but it won't be activated yet.
- If you're not sure where the Music Box is located, check out the list of below.
-
Place the Music Box near where you think the ghost is. Make sure you set the box down using the Use key (right-click on PC, A on Xbox, and X on PlayStation). If you throw the box down, a cursed hunt will immediately be initiated, so make sure to place it.
- There are two ways to use the Music Box: to find out what type of ghost you're dealing with, or to find the general location of where the ghost likes to hang out.
- To find out what type of ghost you're hunting, you must place the Music Box within five meters of the ghost. This will start a ghost event where the ghost will become visible and walk towards the box.
- To find where the ghost's favorite room is, the Music Box must be within 20 meters of the ghost. If it's within 20 meters (but more than 5 meters), the ghost will sing, showing its location.
- There are two ways to use the Music Box: to find out what type of ghost you're dealing with, or to find the general location of where the ghost likes to hang out.
-
Leave the area around the Music Box. This is for a couple of reasons:
- If a player is too close to the Music Box when the ghost appears, it will trigger a cursed hunt.
- Being within 3 meters of a Music Box that is playing music will significantly drain the player's sanity. Reaching or being at 0% sanity while the Music Box is active will trigger a cursed hunt.
-
Take a photo of the ghost (if possible). If you're trying to use the Music Box to get the ghost to show itself, take a picture of the ghost as soon as you can see it. Make sure you're not close to the Music Box when you take the photo, or else you may suffer sanity loss or trigger a cursed hunt.[2]
- A cursed hunt will also trigger if the ghost walks towards the Music Box for more than five seconds, so it's best not to be close to the ghost when it's walking towards the Music Box.
- If you're only using the Music Box to locate the ghost, you can pick it up and bring it outside once you've found the ghost. Once the Music Box is brought outside, it will stop draining sanity, and you won't risk it causing a cursed hunt (though the song will technically keep playing).
