If you want to take full control of your Lenovo pen, changing the settings and button functions is really easy to do. Once you set up the pen, the Lenovo Pen Settings app gives you the most options to choose from, but you can also use Windows settings to change basic functions. Keep reading, and we’ll walk you through changing the settings no matter which Lenovo pen model you own!
Simple Way to Change Lenovo Pen Settings
Use the Lenovo Pen Settings app to customize all the buttons and settings on your pen. Install the app on your device and connect your pen over Bluetooth. Open the app to change the button functions and sensitivity. Alternatively, go to Pen & Windows Ink to make adjustments in your PC settings.
Steps
How to Customize Pen Settings with the Lenovo Settings App
-
Download the Lenovo Pen Settings app to your device. The Lenovo Pen Settings app gives you full customization of all the buttons on your pen. Install the app on your device and open it. Once you pair your pen to your device, the window will display an image of your pen with different settings options.[1]
- On a tablet, download Lenovo Pen Settings from the Microsoft Store.
- On a PC, enter your PC name or serial number from the Lenovo support site to find the most current compatible app and driver.
-
Use the drop-down menus to switch the top button functions. The top button on your pen is on the end, like where an eraser would be on a pencil. Most Lenovo pens let you change what happens when you press the button once or twice. Some pens also let you adjust options if you press and hold the button down.[2]

Change the functions of the barrel buttons. The top and bottom barrel buttons are located on the side of your pen so they’re easy to click while you’re writing or drawing. Check out our breakdown of all the available button functions below, but use the drop-down menus under the barrel button settings to reassign them.[3]
- If you have Hover Click disabled, the button function only activates while the pen tip is touching the screen. If you enable it, the function will work as long as the pen is connected to your device.

- Bottom Barrel Button Default Settings: Erase

Adjust the tip and tilt sensitivity with the sliders. The tip sensitivity determines how sensitive your device is when you press down with the tip of your pen. The tilt sensitivity changes how much your device senses when you tilt the pen at an angle. For a higher sensitivity, drag the sliders to the right.
-
Turn on Presentation Mode to use the pen to change PowerPoint slides. Presentation Mode automatically changes the top button functions on your pen when you open PowerPoint. Clicking the top button once becomes Page Down/Next Slide, and clicking it twice becomes Page Up/Previous Slide.[4]
- If you give a lot of presentations and want to change slides without standing near your device, leave this setting turned on.
-
Go to the Radial Menu to switch the available functions. The Radial Menu is one of the functions you can assign to a button, and it opens a pop-up menu with multiple other menu options. Click on the Radial Menu option on the left side of the window, and choose new functions from the dropdowns to reassign each wedge.

How to Customize Pen Buttons in Windows Settings
-
Open the Pen & Windows Ink menu in your settings. Click on the Start menu on your computer and open Settings. Select Bluetooth & devices from the menu and choose Pen & Windows Ink from the left side of the window. An image of your pen will appear along with its settings.[5]
- Windows Settings only allows you to change the settings for the pen’s top button, so use the Lenovo Pen Settings app if you want to fully customize the functions.
-
Use the drop-down menus and sliders to adjust your pen settings. There are various basic pen settings to choose from, including choosing if you’re left- or right-handed, if you want to see your cursor while using the pen, and if you want touch input turned off while you’re using the pen. Click on the switch to enable or disable the settings, or select the option you’d like from the drop-down menu.
- On Windows 11, click on Additional pen settings to access all the available options.
-
Change the top button functions under the shortcut options. Look for Pen Shortcuts or Choose what your shortcut button does in the settings menu. Depending on which Lenovo pen you’re using, you can change the function for single press, double press, and press-and-hold for your pen. Choose the functions you want to assign from the drop-down menus.
