PDF download Download Article

Are you wondering if someone unmatched you? You may notice that your list of matches is smaller or your chat conversation isn't being updated. In the past, those who unmatched you would just disappear; however, now their profile remains in your chat area, so you have the opportunity to report them, if necessary.[1] This wikiHow article teaches you how to know if someone unmatched you on Bumble.

How to Tell If Someone Unmatches You on Bumble

If someone has unmatched you on Bumble, their chat will be greyed out, and you won’t be able to see their photos or messages. The unmatched conversations will show up at the bottom of your message list.

Figuring Out If Someone Unmatched You on Bumble

  1. Tap the chat bubble icon in the bottom left corner of your screen to access chats. You'll also see matches in the "Match Queue" that you've matched with.[2]
  2. Once unmatched with someone, your shared chat will be deleted, and you won’t be able to access their profile. On the Chats tab, you’ll see their greyed-out name and the time of their last message (since the chat log itself is gone).[3]
    • It’s that simple—and while finding out you’ve been unmatched can be disappointing, it also means you can set out to find a Bumble match that’s even better in the future!

Why did a Bumble match disappear?

  1. If you head over to the Chats tab on Bumble and realize that your chat with someone has mysteriously closed out or vanished, there’s a reason—and we’ll show you how to tell what happened. Here’s why a match might disappear:[4]
    • Your match expired. If you match with someone, but neither of you sends a first message within 24 hours, it’ll automatically expire and be removed. You can opt to Extend the match if you want more time.
    • The other person unmatched you. As we’ve discussed above, your chat with someone will be deleted and greyed out if they unmatch with you.
    • The other person was blocked or removed from Bumble. If someone violates Bumble’s user guidelines, their account will be suspended—and you won’t see their profile or chat history in your matches.
    • The other person deleted their account. If someone deletes their account, you won’t see their profile or chat history in your matches.
    • You unmatched them. It’s self-explanatory—but, if you decide to unmatch someone, Bumble will remove the match (and chat) permanently.

About Unmatching on Bumble

  1. One key thing to know is that it absolutely can’t be reversed; there’s no way to undo your action once you unmatch someone (or they unmatch you). Once unmatched from someone, their greyed-out name will still be visible, even though you won’t be able to view their profile or message them.
    • Bumble changed its rules on unmatching to allow you to report someone, even after being unmatched. So, if you have to unmatch someone for your safety, you can select the Report option at any time afterward.

  1. On the Chats tab, you’ll see a list of matches; simply navigate to the name of the person you want to unmatch and tap it to open your chat with them.
  2. At the top-right corner of the chat screen, you’ll see an icon with three dots. Tap on it to open a drop-down menu with additional options.[5]
  3. Once you tap the Unmatch option, you’ll be asked to give a reason for unmatching this person (which is optional). After that, just tap Confirm to finalize the action![6]
    • Bumble will delete the chat once you’ve unmatched, and the other person won’t be able to message you again.

Section 5 of 5:

When should you unmatch with someone?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Harassment of any kind is totally out of line. If you match with someone who says inappropriate things, acts threateningly, or makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, unmatch them (and report them to Bumble).
    • If Bumble investigates and sees the other person’s inappropriate behavior, they can block or ban the account.
  2. As we’ve already discussed, unmatching is permanent. So, if you think a match still has potential—even if things are going slow or you haven’t fully hit it off yet—you might not want to jump right to unmatching from them. However, if you’re sure there’s no spark between you and you aren’t interested in continuing to message the other person, go ahead and unmatch.
    • If you want, you could send them a polite message before unmatching, just to let them know what you’re doing and why. If you don’t feel safe sending a heads-up, though, you definitely don’t have to.
